Frank McKelvey was probably the foremost Irish Landscape painter of the 20th Century. This view of Strangford
Lough, in Co. Down looking north on a fine summers day, was commissioned by one of the large insurance
corporations of Ireland. They had commissioned scenes from the four provinces and this was the one that Frank
McKelvey painted of Ulster.
It is a vibrant composition and has the added interest of the two fisherman working beside their boat.
The sky has been painted with a palette knife, which gives the clouds a sense of movement.
