DESCRIPTION:
|
…Welliver’s use of colour is not typical of other contemporary landscapists… Welliver’s colour has a distinct personality of it’s own, sensual, fresh, resonant in quality. What he is attempting to achieve is a luminosity… that he does not find in earth colours… He has reduced his palette to eight colours- white, ivory black, cadmium red scarlet, manganese blue, ultramarine blue, lemon yellow, cadmium yellow, and talens green light… he does not try to imitate what he sees, one does not go out into the woods and find Welliver’s colour… –Frank H. Goodyear, Jr.
