DESCRIPTION:
|
This drawing may be dated to the beginning of Bresdin’s career, in the early 1840’s, and is among the first examples of a theme that was to become one of the artist’s favourite subjects. The drawing is unusual in its combined use of brown ink and watercolour; this is a feature only found in a handful of Bresdin’s earliest drawings, such as an Adoration of the Magi in the Rijksprentenkabinet in Amsterdam and a Madonna and Child in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
