Lebasque was most strongly influenced by his contact with younger painters, particularly Bonnard and Vuillard, founders of the 'Nabis' group. He moved in 1924 to the French Riviera where he was the neighbour of Bonnard at Le Cannet. Both in subject and style, Lebasque's work shows a strong affinity with The Nabis: the intimate subject matter, the unique delight in colour and form, as well as the delicate sense of light.
