Zeng Hao  (Chinese, 1963) 

Zeng Hao (Chinese, b.1963) was born in Kunming, and received his BA from Central Academy of Fine Arts. Early in his career, we was drawn to western styles, such as Post-Impressionism, Cubism, and Abstract Expressionism, and from 1989 until 1993, he taught at Kunming Educational Institute. From there, he moved on to teach at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art until 1997, when he was fired for his painting style. His large paintings of tiny figures floating in the space of large canvases were deemed unconventional, and Zeng was labeled a “New Imagist,” challenging traditional imagery, technique, color, and composition. His large paintings consist of people and objects out of proportion, typically isolated in varying sizes, and often portraying the emptiness of life and the disconnectedness between time and space. Zeng has showcased his works in China, Europe, and the United States. He participated in the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009. He currently lives and works in Beijing, China.
