Studio Job  (Dutch)

whitespace
Job Smeets (Belgian, b.1970) and Nynke Tynagel (Dutch, b.1977) are the duo who form Studio Job. Smeets and Tynagel met while they were both attending the renowned Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands. Smeets graduated in 1998 with a degree in three-dimensional design and started Studio Job soon after; Tynagel joined him in 2000 after she completed her coursework in graphic design.

Studio Job is located in Antwerp. The artists’ collaborations result in extremely expressive limited-edition works usually cast in bronze or from laser-cut inlaid woods of the highest quality. Their work is primarily of interest to private collectors and museums, but Smeets and Tynagel have had successful collaborations with other artisans, such as Moooi in the Netherlands, Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum, and Swarovski in Austria. Their collaborative works are some of their most well-known creations, such as the table lamp called Roses On the Vine, which was a collaborative effort with Swarovski, and the Pyramid of Makkum, a totem vase created for the Tichelaar Makkum series.

Studio Job has been nominated for several awards, including the Dutch Culture Prize in 2000 and the Rotterdam Design Prize in 2001, and the artists have won several awards, including the Bombay Sapphire prize in 2004, the Elle Decoration Intl Design Award in 2005, the Paper Chandelier Elle Decor Intl Design Award in 2007, and the Rotterdam Design Prize in 2009. Their work has been shown all over the world in numerous museums and galleries, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, the Dutch Textile Museum in Tilburg, the Salon del Mobile in Milan, the Louvre Museum in Paris, the Museum at FIT in New York, the Museo Bagatti Valsecchi in Milan, the NRW Forum in Düsseldorf, the Réunion des Musées Nationaux in Paris, the San Francisco Museum of Craft+Design, and the Groninger Museum in Groningen. Smeets and Tynagel both live and work at Studio Job in Antwerp.
