Romero Britto  (Brazilian, 1965)

whitespace
Romero Britto (Brazilian, b.1963) is a painter, sculptor, Neo-Pop artist, and serigrapher. His art consists of several cultural elements, including Pop Art, Cubism, and Graffiti. His particular style is often found to be warm, filled with love and optimism. He taught himself about art, and, in 1983, he discovered Matisse and Picasso on a trip to Paris.

One of the artist’s first commissions was from Michel Roux, the founder of Absolut Vodka's Absolut Art Ad Campaign. Britto was asked to change the look of the bottle for an ad campaign that would be seen by millions all over the world. He has also worked with Movado, Enrico Coveri, Disney, BMW, Pepsi, the United Nations, and even Royal Caribbean Cruises on advertising.

Britto currently owns a gallery in Miami, but his work can be seen all over the world. In January of 2010, he created the logo for Save Haiti Saturday, which was a nationwide effort for relief for the victims of the Haiti earthquake that destroyed a great deal of the area. In that same year, he was commissioned to create the official World Cup poster for FIFA. Among the honors that Britto has received was the opportunity to take part in the parade on Sambadrome Marquês de Sapucaí. He was also the theme of Renascer de Jacarepaguá samba school in the Carnival parade in 2012.

Britto has published works through Simon & Schuster and Rizzoli. Some of his public installations locations include Hyde Park in London, the Cirque du Soleil at Super Bowl XLI, the John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, and the O2 Dome in Berlin. Britto approaches art with the belief that it is his job to participate and encourage positive change. It is for this reason that he can be found participating in such causes as St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. He has also been a speaker at many schools, institutions, and events, such as the Economic Forum in Davos. Britto has lived and worked in Miami, FL, since 1989.
