1930   Born in London
1944 - 1946   Studied architecture in London
1948 - 1950   National Service, Egypt
1956   First solo exhibition at The McRoberts and Tunnard Gallery, London. This was soon followed by a major exhibition at the Howard Wise Gallery, New York. Along with Bridget Riley his work passed through a monochromatic period followed by an increasing interest and experimentation with a controlled chromatic scale.
1958   Founded a co-operative of Associated Technicians, concerned with design and construction
1963   Became increasingly interested in painting
1968   Founding member of Space Provision Artistic Cultural and Educational (SPACE) and Art Information Registry (AIR) Information Centre for the Arts
1960 - 1969   Established as a leading figure in the development of op art, kinetic and light art. Working with light, kinetic sculpture, painting and computers his work has constantly evolved through abstraction, construction and the development of forms and effects based on repetition.
1973   Major exhibition at the IKON Gallery, Birmingham
