Peter Anton  (American, 1963)

Peter Anton (American, b.1963) is a renowned sculptor and artist who was born in New Haven, CT. He mainly focuses on food, especially on chocolates and other kinds of sweets. He makes giant naturalistic sculptures and is famous for his boxed chocolates. Occasionally, his studio can appear like a sweet shop,as it is filled with many real treats. He uses them as models. He starts with the process of eating, feeling, smelling, dissecting, and studying a new food repeatedly so as to familiarize himself with a new subject. Afterwards, he embarks on the tedious and long process of carving, sculpting, sanding, constructing, and painting his assorted media works.

In 1993, Anton appeared at the Henri Gallery located in Washington, D.C. for his first show. His first solo exposition in New York took place at Bruce R. Lewin Gallery back in 1995. The exhibition featured more than 70 giant vegetables and fruits. This show earned him more attention than other artists. He proceeded to appear in more solo exhibitions at the gallery. He also had solo shows at Urban Art in Seoul, Allan Stone Gallery in New York, Hammer Galleries in New York, Galerie Terminus in Munich, and Galerie Schriever in Cologne.

Anton's work has been featured in group shows in the United States and overseas. This includes shows held at Museum Villa Rot in Germany, Austin Museum of Art in Texas, Hudson River Museum in New York, Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, Castellani Art Museum in New York, Allan Stone Gallery in New York, Elaine Baker Gallery in Florida, Keszler Gallery in New York, and COPIA Museum in Napa Valley. The Galerie Terminus represented him at the Palm Beach Fine Art and Antique Fair, Art Basel Miami Beach, Art Cologne, and the Venice International Art Fair. Anton's work is also featured in corporate and private collections, such as those belonging to Sir Howard Stringer, Sony's CEO, Keith Richards of Rolling Stones, Sir Norman Foster, an architect, Raymond James Financial, Oppenheim Bank, Breitling Watches, and Perfetti Van Melle, the candy maker giant.
