Nemesio Antunez Biography
1940   Honor Mention Salón Nacional of Fine Arts, Santiago
1955   Founded the Taller 99 (Workshop 99)
1956   Prize of the Circle of Critics, Santiago
1956   Obtained the 'Premio de la Crítica'
1957   Awarded the Best Latinamerican Painter Prize in the prestigious, V Bienal de Sao Paulo, Brasil.
1961   Assumed the direction of the Contemporary Art Museum
1964   Named as a cultural attaché of the Chilean Embassy in the United States, where he reencounter the hectic cultural world of New York. While he was a cultural attaché in the U.S., he painted the MURAL for the UN Hearts of Los Andes.
1965   Prize Painting Competition of the Pan-American Union in Washington
1969   'Medalla de Chile', bestowed by the Senate of the Republic for is excellent cultural work
1971   Da inicio al programa de TV del canal 13 'Ojo con el Arte'
1969 - 1973   Assumed the direction of the Nacional Museum of Fine Arts, Chile
1973   Resigned his position as director of the Museum of Fine Arts and exiled himself in Catalonia, Spain.
1978   Medal at the Biennial Hispanic-American Institute of Madrid, Spain
1980   Museum S. Guggenheim Acquisition Prize, New York.
1978 - 1982   Resided in London where is named visiting professor at the Royal College of Art
1973 - 1985   Resided in Spain, Greta Britain and Italy
1987   Painter Prize, Club Master Magazine, Santiago
1988   Prize of the Circle of Art Critics in retrospective exhibit organized by Praxis Gallery in recognition of its fifty years of artistic work.
1990   Prize in Cultural Education category for its TV program "Eye with the Art", National Counsel of Television
1991   Medal Municipal of Santiago, offered by the Mayor of the city in Honor to his retrospective exhibit, Santiago
1991   Title Alumnus Honoris Causes, offered by the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning of the University of Chile
1993   Conferred with The Order to the Merit in Docent and Culture Gabriela Mistral by the President of Chile. He died shortly at the age of 75.
1993   Received a special homage during the International Festival of Biarritz, France.
1993   The Casa de la Moneda de Chile issued a stamp in Homage to Antúnez with the reproduction of the work "Tanguería of Valparaíso" (the lithograph presented in the front pay of this gallery site.)
1994   In homage to its memory, the State of Chile constituted the Commission Nemesio Antúnez, responsible for monitoring the compliance of the laws on works of art.
