Michel Comte (Swiss, b.1954) is a professionally trained art restorer turned photographer. He was born in Zurich, Switzerland. In 1979, he received an international advertising assignment from Karl Lagerfeld for the Chloe fashion house and relocated to Paris. In 1981, Comte moved to New York to work for American Vogue. He later moved to Los Angeles. It was not long before Comte became one of the most in-demand magazine and fashion photographers in the world.

The photographer’s subject matter ranges from portraits and action sports to landscapes and nudes. He has photographed some of the most well-known celebrities and public figures from the worlds of music, entertainment, and art. He has photographed Mike Tyson, Jeremy Irons, Julian Schnabel, Miles Davis, Joan Severance, Sophia Coppola, Elijah Wood, Daryl Hannah, Tina Turner, Branford Marsalis, Demi Moore, Sylvester Stallone, and Michael Schumacher. He has also worked on advertising campaigns for companies such as Revlon, Mercedes Benz, Dolce & Gabbana, Armani, Nike, Lancôme, Jaguar, and Ferrari.

Comte has been moving toward photojournalism and documentary work. While on assignment for the International Red Cross or his own organization, the Michel Comte Water Foundation, he has traveled to unstable areas and war zones in Afghanistan, Sudan, Bosnia, Cambodia, and Iraq. Comte has had exhibitions all over the world, including in galleries such as the Espace de l'art contemporain, Mouans-Sartoux, France, the Vogue Russia and Pobeda Gallery in Moscow, the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, the Centro Internazionale di Fotografia in Verona, Italy, the Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich, Switzerland, the NRW-Forum in Düsseldorf, Germany, the Axel-Springer-Passage in Berlin, and the Hotel Suvretta House in St. Moritz.

Comte’s work has been published in several books, including Schumacher, 30 Years and 5 Minutes, People and Places with No Name, and Twenty Years. He is currently represented by EL'PS's Gallery in Turkey, Kunst-Licht Galerie in China, Guy Hepner Contemporary in Los Angeles, Photographers Limited Editions in Austria, and Young Gallery in Belgium. He currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.

1979   Comte leave Switzerland and moves to Paris
1981   Comte relocates to New York, where he beings to work for the American Vogue, later settling down in Los Angeles.
2003   Photographs the campaign for his own fragrance, Michel Comte Shared Water
2004   Founds the Michel Comte Water Foundation, a charitable foundation to help provide access to clean drinking water for people in developing countries
2007   Comte begins his first international film project as director of a Hollywood production
1981 - 2011   Editorially Comte works mainly for Condé Nast. He not only works as a fashion photographer, but also a celebrity photographer, portraying stars from the worlds of fashion, art, entertainment, music and sports. His subjects include Demi Moore, Sharon Stone, Kim Basinger, Jennifer Lopez, Robert Altman, Sting, Jeremy Irons, Julian Schnabel and Jeff Koons
1999 - 2011   Comte has traveled to in war zones and unstable regions such as Tibet, Iraq, Afghanistan and Bosnia as a photographer for the International Red Cross. He has developed various charity project in collaboration with the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC).
