Luis Caballero Biography
1943   Born in Bogota, Colombia
1961 - 1962   Studied art at Universidad de los Andes, Bogota, Columbia. Among the teachers there, he was most strongly influenced by the Spanish-born artist Juan Antonio Roda (1921-2003)
1963 - 1964   Completed his formal artistic training in Paris at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. In Paris, Caballero felt liberated by the widespread acceptance of homosexuality and the pervasive mood of sexual freedom
1967 - 1969   Became a professor of drawing at the Universidad de Bogota Jorge Tadeo Lozano, Bogata, Columbia
1969   Moved to Paris
1971   Received the Painting prize, Biennale de Peinture de Cagnes-sur-Mer, France
1977   Received First prize for drawing at the Biennale de Rijeka, Yugoslavia
1995   Died: Bogota, Columbia
1996   The city of Bogota established in his memory the Premio Luis Caballero, a major artistic prize, based on a competition among prominent Latin American artists
