Karin Davie  (Canadian, 1965)

Karin Davie (Canadian, b.1965), is a Contemporary Abstract Artist who was born in Toronto, Canada. Davie graduated with a BFA from Queen’s University, Ontario, in 1987, and got her MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1989. After school, Davie moved to New York, where she began showing her work. At his time, she was exploring movement and gesture in painting with works such as her In Out In Out series (1992) and her Odalisque series (1993). In 1998, Davie appeared in the group show Projects 63 at the Museum of Modern Art with Udomsak Krisanamus, Bruce Pearson (American, b.1956), and Fred Tomaselli (American, b.1956). In the early 2000s, Davie experimented with light and emotion in her signature ribbon style in series such as Pushed, Pulled, Depleted & Duplicated (2003) and Between My Eye and Heart (2004–2005). Davie’s work was collected for the retrospective, Dangerous Curves, at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, NY, in 2006. She has had various exhibitions in the United States, Canada, and Sweden. Her works have been shown at the Wetterling Gallery in Stockholm, Sweden, and at White Cube in London, UK. In addition to her paintings, Davie has also produced sculptures, such as Introduction: Symphony 1, which was shown at Mary Boone Gallery. Davie spends her time in New York and Seattle.
