1892   Born on August 9th at Wurtzburg, in Bavaria, Germany
1896   Family moves to Munich, Germany
1908   Begins to paint
1911   Spends several weeks as a tour guide in Egypt
1917   Establishes a Munich studio in Germany in the small manor of Werneckschlôssl.
Meets Rainer Maria Rilke, Ringelnatz and Paul Klee.
Has his first exhibition, at the Tannhâuser Gallery in Munich, Germany.
1924   Visits the Bauhaus in Weimar, Germany.
Meets Kandinsky, Gropius, Feininger
1925 - 1928   Voyages to Italy, Algeria and France
1928   Moves to Paris for 12 years.
Meets Brassaï, Van Velde and Bissière.
Participates in the exhibition “Abstrakte” in Munich and has his first exhibition in Paris.
Meets Jeanne Bucher, who will henceforth assume responsibility for his representation.
1935   Travels in Spain; meets Henry Miller, Lawrence Durrell and Adolf Herbst
1939 - 1943   Interns as a national in the camps at Gurs, Germany
1948   Becomes a naturalized French citizen
1952   Laureate of the Jongkind Prize, awarded by the Arches paper company
1958   Dies in Paris, France
