Gerhard Arij Ludwig Morgenstjerne Munthe Biography
Born in Düsseldorf, Germany, Morgenstjerne Munthe attended the Art School in Düsseldorf, where he lived until 1897. At that time, he moved to the Netherlands and studied at The Hague, Katwijk, Zierikzee, and Noordwijker-hout. His studies in the Netherlands helped him to develop his favoured style. Cool, muted tones and thick, luscious brushstrokes characterize his paintings, which usually depict beach and marine scenes, fishermen and fishing boats. Morgenstjerne Munthe has had exhibitions in Arnhem, Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Leeuwarden and has works in many private collections.
