Gereon Krebber  (German, 1973)

whitespace
Gereon Krebber (German, b.1973) was born in Oberhausen, Germany. He is a sculptor, and has been living in Cologne since 2012. In addition, Krebber is a professor at the Art Academy in Dusseldorf, where he studied from 1995 to 2000 with Tony Cragg (British, b.1949) and Hubert Kiecol (German, 1950). Krebber’s works are characterized by the use of unorthodox sculptural materials that he forms into amorphous, often humorous-looking objects. Krebber uses materials such as gelatin, pig ears, spray foam, burnt wood, and foil for his sculptures, which hang from the ceiling, crawl through vents, or meander through stairways, and which oscillate between humor and disgust. In 2010, the Kunstmuseum in Bonn showed Krebber’s sculptures in the exhibition Der Westen leuchtet together with works by Cragg, Georg Herold (German, b.1947), and Ulrich Rückriem (German, b.1938). In 2009, Krebber won the Wilhelm Lehmbruck Scholarship, graduating in 2011 with his exhibition Azur complex in the Wilhelm Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg. Additionally, Krebber’s work, Gewürm, was part of the major exhibition Sculptures of the Dusseldorf Academy of Art—from 1945 to the Present at K20 in Dusseldorf. In July 2013, his outdoor project Blobster opened in Gelsenkirchen.
