Sir Frank Dicksee studied in the studio of his father, the artist Thomas Francis Dicksee (1819-95), who is known for his portraits and historical genre scenes. Dicksee was taught at the Royal Academy Schools from 1870-75 where he was taught and influenced by Frederic Leighton and John Everett Millais. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1881, a Royal Academician in 1891 and became President of the Royal Academy in 1924. He was knighted the following year
