Darren Almond

(British, born 1971)

Darren Almond is a contemporary British artist. Working in a variety of media that includes photography, sculpture, and film, Almond addresses seriality and ephemera, exploring temporal themes such as the schedules of commuting and working. In his piece Meantime (2000), the artist transformed an entire shipping container into a functional digital clock which he documented as it crossed the Atlantic Ocean. Born in 1971 in Appley Bridge, England, he later graduated from the Winchester School of Art with a BA in fine arts. In 2005, he was shortlisted for the Turner Prize, considered one of the most prestigious artistic awards in the world. Almond’s work can be found in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Gallery in London, and the Art Institute of Chicago, among others. He lives and works in London, England.
