When Andrea Scheidler paints she challenges herself to let her eye register only how the effect of light on surfaces creates a living tapestry of tone and color.  She admires painters that project and propose reality, but whose paintings dematerialize to a certain degree on close examination.

"My most important mentor, Richard Schmid achieves his brilliance by maintaining a perfect balance of drawing, value, edge and color.  Essential strokes of value and color lead the viewer to see more than is actually there.  Form is achieved by the accurate placement of value shapes, rather than by microscopically accurate detail. All of my most important teachers, including Dennis Sheehan, Nancy Guzik, and Clayton Beck have shared this way of seeing and painting."

Andrea began her art career in her teens then chose independent study as a means to achieve her goals.   With her husband, Tom Scheidler, she founded the nationally famous Greenwood School in Putney, VT. Greenwood is a school for boys who fail in mainstream academic classes, but who often are gifted in oral language and the arts.

Through her years with the school, Andrea continued to pursue her own artistic development and to show her work at local galleries and venues.   A few years ago, she worked with artist Tim Allen to create a local venue called "The Front Porch Gallery". Fellow Putney Painters John Smith and Rosemary Ladd also sold many paintings through that venue

Of Andrea's still life exhibit at the Front Porch, Brattleboro reporter Diana Lischer-Goodband wrote:

"Her paintings display her intimate knowledge of the texture and tones of the skins of her fruits so that one's mouth waters at the sight of them. A viewing can conjure up the perfumed memory of summer fruit."

A landscape show with Tim Allen at a gallery in nearby Brattleboro drew a crowd of over 300 viewers.  Andrea is a founding member of Putney Painters and has painted with that group for seven years.

Andrea lives quietly on Putney Mountain in a home built by her husband and two sons from the pine and oak trees that stood there.   She sells her work privately and through Susan Powell Fine Art in Madison, CT.  Andrea's paintings are in private collections in the US, Canada, Europe, and New Zealand.
