Agostino Ciampelli Biography
Agostino Ciampelli was trained in the studio of Santi di Tito, one of the leading artists of the Counter Reformation in Florence, and from him learned the principles of a conservative, devotional manner in the treatment of religious subjects that so characterize the Florentine
riforma.
Ciampelli may, in fact, be described as the true artistic heir to Santi di Tito, whose style remained a profound influence on the younger artist for much of his career. Admitted into the Accademia del Disegno in Florence in 1585, Ciampelli’s earliest known works include paintings for a temporary triumphal arch erected for the entry of Christina of Lorraine into Florence in 1589, part of a cycle of paintings by Santi di Tito and his pupils.
