1906   Born on the Ile de Ténériffe des Canaries in 1906, Dominguez starts at a very young age to paint landscapes, mirroring his father, who was an amateur painter.
At the age of 21 he is sent to Paris to help deliver products from the family farm, Dominguez benefits from his time there to work in the free academies. He is quickly attracted by Dali, Tanguy and Picasso; then two years later, he begins to paint his first surrealist paintings.
1933   Starting in 1933, he meets André Breton and Paul Eluard with whom he develops close friendships and writes many texts on painting.
1934   Dominguez is part of the official surrealist group in 1934.
1935 - 1936   He is figured in the Exposition Surréaliste de Copenhague in 1935 and then at the exhibits in London and Ténériffe in 1936. During this time, he invents a procedure of "décalcomanie" or transfer-printing, which he perfected during his emplayment for Max Ernst. Also in 1936, Dominguez participates with some surrealist pieces at the exhibition "Art Fantastique, Dada et Surréalisme", at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He continues to participate in many of these exhibitions up until things break off with Breton.
In his poetic climate, he receives the admiration of Dali and in particular Tanguy. However, slowly, he sumnits to the influence of Picasso, who facinates him.
1949   In 1949 his graphic period is simplified to extremes. Shapes and objects are minimalized and their surfaces are filled with a clear, flat-tint color. It is an aired technique that finds itself in a large number of works. It is also at this thime that he paints tapestry cartons.
1955   In 1955 one of the most important exhibitions dedicated to Oscar Dominguez was held at the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles. Then there was another organized by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Paris in 1972 where 15 of his paintings were featured.
