  A native New Yorker, Frederick Brosen began his studies at City College of New York, graduating in 1976. He studied art at the Art Students League and at Pratt Institute, receiving his MFA from Pratt in 1979.

Frederick Brosen’s recognition began in 1982, when his work was represented in the annual Art on Paper exhibition at the Weatherspoon Art Gallery in Greensboro, North Carolina; and in an exhibition of Architectural Images at the Summit Art Center in New Jersey. In 1983, Frederick Brosen had his first one-person exhibition in New York, at Staempfli Gallery. Watercolors by Brosen were included in the 1983 New Talent Show at the Brooklyn Museum and in The Art of Drawing III at the Arkansas Art Center in 1984. Since then, Frederick Brosen has been invited to exhibit at Bruce Museum (Greenwich, CT), National Academy of Design (NY), American Academy of Arts and Letters (NY), Museum of the City of New York, Huntington Museumand Everhart Museum (Scranton, PA).

Works by Frederick Brosen have been acquired by New York Historical Society, Frye Museum, Knoxville Museum of Art, Museum of the City of New York, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Rockefeller Foundation. He is represented in the personal collections of Rita Rich, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Ross and Billy Wilder; and the corporate collections of the John Hancock Company, Massachusetts Financial Services, Merrill Lynch and NYNEX.

Mr. Brosen has been recognized with a Silver Medal of Honor by the Royal Society of Arts & Letters in London, a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, and artist residency at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. His work has been recently exhibited at the Frye Art Museum in Seattle and Forum Gallery in Los Angeles. A monograph of his work is scheduled for publication later this year.
