1891   Born in Anamosa, IA on Feb. 13
1910   Attended art school in Minnesota
1913   Moved to Chicago to attend the Art Institute while working in silversmith shop
1920 - 1928   Made several trips to Europe and atttended the Academie Julian in Paris, France
1932   Founded Stone City Art Colony near Anamosa, IA
1934   Appointed dirctor of the Public Works of Art Projects
1935 - 1942   Worked at University of Iowa and became spokesman for the concept of Regionalism. He is known along with Thomas Hart Benton and John Steuart Curry, as the third in the Regionalist triad. His work is recognized as shaping America's vision of the Midwest
1942   Died on Feb.13 in Iowa City, IA
