1929   Moves to Russia and works as the only female foreign correspondent for Hearst newspapers

1941   Meets Piet Mondrian, who encourages her to abandon writing in pursuit of a career as a visual artist; Joins the American Abstract Artists group
1944   Following Mondrian’s death, becomes interested in theosophy and through it Tibetan Buddhism
