Printed in 1989 as part of the monumental series "Welcome to the Water Planet" with the help of master printer Kenneth Tyler, "Where the Water Goes" is one of Rosenquist’s most stunning performances. Made from coloured paper pulp and overlaid with lithographic collage elements, the series required the construction of a special large scale electrical hoist and vacuum pump to mould the paper. Coloured paper pulp was first applied to a dense screen with a modified spray gun to achieve translucency, and then the collaged elements were applied over this. With its complex, enigmatic imagery, Where the water goes, is one of the most ambitious manifestations yet achieved using the process of lithography.
