DESCRIPTION:  This exceptionally large and unpublished work probably formed part of a decorative scheme and most likely dates from after 1765 when Robert returned to Paris from his travels in Italy. The composition incorporates several architectural and landscape elements evocative of Robert’s many of views of Tivoli and Anio and was possibly inspired by one or several sketches that he made on site.
