Novel-la is the result of a remarkable collaboration between Tąpies and Brossa, featuring thirty-seven (31 original by Tąpies) black and white lithographs. Using reproductions of the documents needed throughout life, Brossa paints a vivid picture of the constraints and formalities of life in Spain under Franco's fascist rule. While Tąpies's illustrations, some on crumbled, folded, torn or cut sheets of paper, juxtapose those of Brossa's by "suggest[ing] the potential freedom of an individual even in the face of enforced regulations (Deborah Wye, “Antoni Tąpies in Print).
