eBay Teams Up with artnet To Bring Leading Fine Art Price Database to eBay Premier Site

Free Access Offered for First Time to artnet Database

New York, N.Y./San Jose, Ca., March 16, 2001 -- In its latest step to create the leading destination for fine works of art online, eBay Premier (www.ebaypremier.com), today announced a deal with artnet (www.artnet) to make artnet's industry leading Fine Art Auctions Database available on the eBay Premier site. The high quality, full-featured database will give users invaluable information as they browse and place bids on fine works of art. The database contains over two million records, from 1989 to the present, covering 173,000 artists from Old Masters through Contemporary art.

"By joining forces with artnet, eBay Premier is offering users unparalleled selection and value added services," stated Geoff Iddison, general manager of eBay Premier. "artnet's historical price data gives users added confidence in bidding on fine art and continues our efforts to create the most comprehensive art marketplace on the Web."

Under the terms of the agreement, eBay Premier visitors may access free of charge artnet's historical price data specific to each lot offered in the Fine Art category of eBay Premier, to enhance bidder confidence in making purchases. eBay Premier users will be able to subscribe to artnet's complete database via a link to artnet. In addition, artnet itself will be promoted on a rotating basis on the home page of eBay Premier, providing access to artnet's full range of services.

"Teaming up with eBay Premier is a win-win for artnet and eBay. Our Fine Art Auctions Database adds an important and attractive element to the customer experience on the eBay Premier site," said Hans Neuendorf, chairman and CEO of artnet. "eBay's user base is second to none on the Internet. We are pleased that offering our database tool on eBay expands our reach, while providing a valuable service to art enthusiasts on eBay."

Launched as a specialty site on eBay in January 2001, eBay Premier bridges the art world and the Internet by offering a new and unique showcase for premium art, antiques and rare collectibles. The site provides an unparalleled array of services including a Live Auctions feature for real-time bidding to over 300 auction houses around the world, and a "Premier Guarantee," that backs each item sold on the eBay Premier site, excluding Live Auctions, by $50,000.
