artnet takes local fundraisers into an international
arena via online auctions

New York, NY/Frankfurt -- October 18, 2000 -- Continuing in its efforts to assist non-profit arts organizations in expanding their fundraising activities via the Internet, artnet - The Worlds Art Marketplace TM - is sponsoring two online benefit auctions in October 2000. The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art (October 4-20) and the Independent Curators International (ICI) (October 11-26) are the two beneficiaries of the online sales.

A pioneer in the business of online benefit auctioning, artnets last two auctions in 2000 complete a series of six successful online fundraising events. Each of the virtual auctions was the highlight of a festive evening, allowing guests to bid for fine art along side people from around the world.

We are looking back at four enormously successful events. Some works at artnets benefit auctions sold for two to three times their estimates - sale prices that would not have been possible had the auction been limited to the events geographic locale, says Karen Amiel, Vice President of Content Development and Promotion. Offering dealers as well as art-aficionados a marketplace for fine art, artnet is committed to benefit auctions because they grow the companys customer base significantly, energize the art world in an innovative way and assist art institutions in their efforts to raise needed funds by reaching a wider audience.

artnets past co-operations benefited such well-known organizations as the National Coalition for the Homeless, The Dallas Museum of Art, The New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, and, most recently, The New York Academy of Art.

artnets online auction to support The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Arts education programs and exhibitions began October 4 and ends with an annual Gala at The Pierre in New York on October 20. The ICI benefit auction began October 11, and will end the evening of their benefit auction at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers in New York on October 26. The ICI auction and gala will celebrate the organizations 25th anniversary. Independent Curators International is dedicated to enhancing the understanding and appreciation of contemporary art through traveling exhibitions and other activities that reach a diverse national and international audience.
