Von Michaela Nolte Bei der Entwicklung des Kunstmarktes im Internet zieht Neuendorf Parallelen zum Entstehen der Kunstmessen, an dem er 1967 als Mitinitiator der heutigen Art Cologne beteiligt war. "Da war ein sehr großes Bedürfnis des Publikums, einen Überblick über Preise zu bekommen. Das Prinzip haben wir auch auf artnet angewandt." Die nächste Etappe sind Online-Auktionen. Obwohl artnet, ähnlich wie Sotheby’s, mit Pilotprojekten Millionenverluste einfuhr, ist Neuendorfs Glaube dran unerschüttert. One of the rare survivors of the Internet bubble, when more than 100 art sites were created, artnet is changing the way that pieces are bought and sold. The Manhattan-based site--which specializes in information, from the price history of every artwork sold at auction to an inventory of galleries around the world--is democratizing the market. Since collectors can find out what galleries paid for the art that they are hawking, dealers can no longer mark up prices as high as they'd like. In turn, dealers have access to more collectors than ever before.
