Artnet Top Ten
6/27/03

Few tools are more useful at measuring the art market than the Artnet Fine Art Auctions Database. This week, we wanted to use it for an especially focused snapshot of the top level of the art market right now -- thus, a listing of the top ten prices for fine art at auction in the month of June 2003. As it happens, most of the major auction action moves to London this month, where the big two of the auction world hold a series of sales of British, modern and contemporary art. The results are listed, below. N.B.: The Schiele price is an auction record for the artist, while the Reynolds price is the second-highest paid at auction (his record is £10,343,500 [$14,671,630]).
