|SEURAT BUYER REVEALED|
by Andrew Decker
Nope. Not Leon Black. Sorry, not Philip Niarchos. The Sultan of what? No way! Nor was it Bill "Codex" Gates. The buyer of Georges Seurat's Paysage, L'ile de la Grande-Jatte at Sotheby's New York for $35,202,500 was none other than Mirage Resorts honcho Steve Wynn. The painting -- widely considered a bargain -- will hang in the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art in Las Vegas, alongside works by Gauguin, Renoir and van Gogh. The Bellagio resort regularly features performances by Cirque du Soleil. Can we now expect a Las Vegas revival of Stephen Sondheim's brilliant but difficult musical, Sunday in the Park with George?
