Rhona Hoffman Gallery is pleased to present the second solo exhibition by artist Jacob Hashimoto, "Plumes and the Landscape Omnibus", opening September 7th, 2007.

The Landscape Omnibus is an installation consisting of 15 individual panels placed side by side. Each panel consists of two acrylic and wood supports from which Hashimoto strings hundreds of delicate elliptical elements, built of bamboo and hand collaged with rice paper. Throughout his career, Hashimoto has employed a number of motifs such as stripes, targets, flowers, dots, grass, and waves which have been used repeatedly in combination. Breaking down his own lexicon of pattern, Hashimoto features a singular motif in each panel of the Landscape Omnibus. Filling two walls and rounding the corner, this dense and colorful panoramic installation visually envelopes the viewer in its intense optical space.

In the street-level gallery is a site specific installation of bamboo, rice and silk paper elements strung in columns from floor to ceiling. Viewers can move through this forest, experiencing first hand the space Hashimoto has sculpted.

Hashimoto was born in 1973 in Greeley, Colorado. In 1996 he received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the United States and in Europe.
