Wanda Ewing: Wallflowers
October 23rd-November 29th
Opening Reception Thursday October 23rd 6-8pm

Kathleen Cullen is proud to present the work of Wanda Ewing.

Wanda Ewing teaches art at the University of Nebraska in Omaha. She has received numerous awards and grants such as the 2003 Nebraska Women’s Caucus for Art travel grant and the 2006 National Council of Negro Woman artist of the year.

As an accomplished printmaker, Ewing has been featured in multiple solo as well as group exhibitions on both the national and international scale. Her next exhibition, Wallflowers will run from October 23rd through November 29th at Kathleen Cullen Gallery.

In this exhibition, Ewing continues to explore the concept of beauty. Carved from linoleum blocks, each figure is printed onto floral wallpaper in the shape of a square. These figures are both solid and transparent, giving the sense that they are “trapped” by the floral print of the paper. Ewing wishes to create a discourse of what defines beauty, feminism, and female empowerment while using her definitive style of tongue-and-cheek humor.
