Putney Painters & Friends
November 20 - December 30, 2009
Opening reception Friday, November 20, 6-8 pm
The Putney Painters have become one of the leading Realism groups in the US, renowned for landscapes, gardens, portraits and still lifes. This select group of 18 professional artists first gathered in a barn in Putney, Vermont, and have been painting together for 8 years with internationally known artist Richard Schmid (recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the John Singer Sargent Medal for Life Achievement at the Metropolitan Museum of Art) and Nancy Guzik, who received the 2007 Award of Excellence by the Women Artists of the West and three Gold medals at the Pallete and Chisel Academy in Chicago. This rich liaison has produced a wonderful variety of accomplished work and has brought them success and national recognition. "Putney Painters, like the artist colonies of the past, continues to flourish and is becoming an important site for the recent upsurge of interest in realistic and impressionist painting," says Susan Powell, owner, Susan Powell Fine Art. Members of the group include Kathy Anderson, Carol Arnold, Casey Baugh, Stephanie Birdsall, Nancy Guzik, Charlie Hunter, Hagop Keledjian, Raphy Kertenian, John Kilroy, Rosemary Ladd, Dick Macneil, John Potter, Andrea Scheidler, Dennis Sheehan, John Smith and Katie Swatland.
Putney Friends invited include Susan Jositas, Tony Pro, Diane Rath, Bob Watkins.
Opening reception Friday, November 20, 6-8 pm.
