ALBERT HOUTHUESEN
1903 – 1979
Albert Houthuesen was born in Amsterdam but came to London in 1912, following the tragic death of his father. During the 1920’s, he studied at the Royal College of Art, with Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth and Edward Burra.
His work is in The Ashmolean Museum, The British Museum, Leeds City Art Gallery, The Tate Gallery, Ulster Museum, Belfast, Victoria and Albert, and The National Museum of Wales.
For sixty years, he worked in virtual isolation, producing a body of work unique in its range of subject, beauty and power - and in the unifying, highly personal vision it expresses. A selection of his still-lives, landscapes, seascapes, portraits, clowns, biblical and allegorical scenes can be viewed on www.houthuesen.com.
Richard Nathanson exclusively represents the Albert Houthuesen estate. He is preparing the revised edition of his 1990 biography ‘Walk To The Moon – The Story of Albert Houthuesen’. And the Houthuesen catalogue raisonne.
