1933 Began painting at Augusta Savage's Uptown Art Laboratory
1946 Began exhibiting with Marion Willard Gallery,NYC-numerous solo shows
1952 Exhibiited in "Abstract Painting and Sculpture in America" MOMA
1956 Represented US at 1956 Venice Biennale
1963 Founding member of Spiral, a group of African-American Artsts
1969 Organized Cinque Gallery with Romare Bearden and Ernest Crichlow
1976 First retrospective exhibition, Norman Lewis: A Retrospective, Graduate School and University Center of the City University of NY
Studied at Columbia U. and the John Reed Club Art School
Accepted into Federal Art Program of the Works Progress Administration(WPA)
Founding member of Harlem Artists Guild
