Studied at Dusseldorf Academy and then traveled extensively throughout Germany, Switzarland, Italy, and Norway |

First exhibited in Berlin, where he had many subsequent shows |

Came to United States and settled in Philadelphia. Quickly established himself as a leading regional painter and exhibited at the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts |
