Biography
1807 Born August 20 in Bordeaux
1823 Began an apprenticeship in painting on porcelain at a china factory in Paris,
1831 First Salon entry: Scene Amour
1833 Frequented Fontainebleau Forest for years to come
1835 Visited Barbizon for the first time
1836 Met Rousseau and entered a painting featuring Fontainebleau Forest in the Salon
1848 Won a first-class medal from the Salon and received the Legion d’honneur
1859 Stopped showing at the Salon
1863 Made the acquaintance of a new generation of painters including Claude
1869 Summered in Etretat and painted seascapes in the company of Gustave
1870 - 1871 Sought refuge in Brussels during the Franco-Prussian War
1876 Died November 18 in the Mediterranean resort of Mentone
