Biography
1898 Born in the small town of Lessines, a cosmopolitan area of Belgium
1916 - 1918 Studied at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Brussels
1922 Married Georgette Berger
1923 Sells his first painting, a portrait of the singer Evelyne Brélia
1925 Painted first major surrealist work, 'Le Jockey Perdu' (The Lost Jockey)
1927 Magritte and Georgette move to Paris to be closer to the Surrealists and becomes friends with Andre Breton
1967 Died in Brussels, August 15
