Born in San Francisco, CA on September 29, 1856, she was the daughter of William F. and Lucy (Kendall) Herrick. When quite young, Mary learned to draw from her father and when the San Francisco School of Design opened in 1874 she was the first pupil to enroll. She and her husband, Colin Ross, lived in San Francisco until 1914 when they moved across the bay to Piedmont to a home at 314 Pacific. She died there on October 31, 1935 and is buried in Mountain view Cemetery. Primarily a painter of floral still lifes, her works are rare. |
