Biography
Sidney Richard Percy was an outstanding 19th century English landscape painter. Although he was a member of the famous Boddington, Gilbert and Williams family of painters, he used the name Percy to distinguish himself from them.
From 1842 until 1886 his works were exhibited at the renowned Royal Academy 73 times, the British Institute 48 times, and Suffolk Street 77 times. He was one of the top landscape artists of his time and his works continue to draw strong attention in auctions throughout Europe and the US.
Percy's colors are bright and meticulous, and noticeably similar to those of his relative, Edwin Boddington. He painted English views in Devon, Yorkshire, the Lake District and Skye, but he concentrated mostly on the scenery of North Wales, which is quite likely the scene for this beautiful painting.
