Marinus Adrianus Koekkoek was born in Middelburg, the second son of Johannes Hermanus Koekkoek (1778-1851). He began his apprenticeship in his father's studio working with his elder brother Barend Cornelis Koekkoek (1803-1862). The two brothers began specialising in landscape painting and in 1837. They shared a studio at Cleve. Marinus later travelled to Amsterdam and Hilversum. |
