Born in California, Claudia considers herself of Southern origin, having lived most of her life in Kentucky and Georgia. From her earliest memories she began to draw on anything available, the smooth sand at the beach, the underside of bark of the native Georgia pine trees, even using charcoal leftover from Girl Scout camp. As she matured, she earned a BFA as an honors graduate from the University of Georgia. Her fame was first realized in the Southeast and it wasn’t long before she opened her own art school in Atlanta, which today includes a number of accomplished artists from her fold. |

After a successful career in Atlanta, she was drawn to the light and the “wildness” of the Southwest and moved to Arizona in 1998. This move allows her to paint plein air as she enjoys hiking and painting in the desert settings. She is an active member of numerous artists groups sharing her vast knowledge with other artists. Her enthusiasm for the Southwest is evident in her exuberant paintings which can best be described as “happy.” Claudia is a detailed colorist, studying carefully the complimentary colors and portraying them in both her interiors and landscapes. |

It is obvious to any trained eye that Claudia was influenced by the Fauvists and Matisse. Her love of travel lead her to a five month journey to all corners of the U.S. in 2001 during which she sketched to provide ideas for her future paintings. Her travels have taken her to Paris, Provence, and Switzerland, Mexico, Iceland and this past summer she journeyed to an artist colony in Maine for the first time. The many collectors of her work were delighted to see her featured in the April 2003 issue of Southwest Art and she is the cover artist for a recent issue of Art Life. Her work graces the recently restored Fox Theater in her beloved Atlanta and her work will be shown in an upcoming issue of American Art Collector in 2006. |
