Biography
1887 Born in Platone (Jelgava district, Latvia)
1902 Acquired the basic knowledge of painting in J.Valter´s studio in Riga
1904 Student of famous Latvian painter V. Purvitis in Riga
1909 - 1912 Studied at Brussels Royal Academy of Art in the classes of well-known Belgian masters Herman Richir and Jean Delville
1916 - 1917 Lived in Moscow
1920 First exhibition of 66 paintings
1927 - 1940 Worked as one of editors of the Latvian Encyclopedic Dictionary
1940 Published together with his brother K. Eliass the book "French Painting of Nowadays’’
1925 - 1953 Pedagogical work at the Latvian Academy of Art
1919 - 1974 Took part in different exhibitions in Latvia and abroad
1975 Died in Riga
