Trains to become a sculptor in Lörrach/Germany. |

Settles in Basel/Switzerland where he stays until the end of World War II. Works as a labourer then as assistant for sculptor Otto Roos. Later as Assistant for sculptor Carl Burkhardt which enables him to pay for a small studio. |

Sees works of Erich Heckel, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Schmidt-Rottluff. Travels to Germany where he sees the Munch-Retrospective. Decides to become a painter. |

Meets Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and visits him in Davos/Switzerland. |

Founding-member of the group "Rot/Blau" with fellow artists Albert Müller, Paul Camenisch and Werner Neuhaus. |
