Biography
Steve McCurry the American Photographer is recognized universally as one of today’s finest image makers. His photographs frequently appear in National Geographic magazine and featured in every major magazine in the world. Many of his images have become modern icons. Steve has been documenting the cyclical destruction and rebuilding of Afghanistan for 24 years; from the Soviet invasion in 1979 to the fall of the Taliban in November 2002. He co-produced the documentary “Search for the Afghan Girl”, returning in 2002 to Afghanistan to rediscover the previously unidentified Afghan refugee girl. The images of Sharbat Gula, the “Afghan Girl”, before and after, create a strong impact and have been described as the most recognizable photographs in the world today.
