Born in 1973, Tony Pro grew up in Southern California, and received his first instruction from his artist father, wildlife and landscape painter Julio Pro.Tony’s first art sales took place at age eight when he sold drawings of airplanes in a corner of his dad’s booth at a museum show. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design from California State University, Northridge, at the same time attending classes at California Art Institute where he studied with famed illustrator, Glenn Orbik. While attending classes at the institute, he studied alongside some of California's contemporary "greats" including Ryan Wurmser and Jeremy Lipking. Pro has also studied under legends Richard Schmid and Morgan Weistling, and has been influenced by the works of early 20th century California artists Edgar Payne, Granville Redmond, Armin Hansen and William Wendt. Pro is a member of the California Art Club, the American Society of Portrait Artists, Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America, and the Allied Artists of America. Recently, he was included in the Top 100 Artists - 2004 Exhibition of Oil Painters of American Western Region Arts for the Parks, Jackson Hole, Wyoming winning the 2004 San Antonio Missions Historical Park Acquisition Award for his painting, “Friar’s Desk.” He also won the First Place Award in the 2004 Portrait Society of Atlanta Fall Exhibition for “The Editor.” Recent exhibitions included the Christmas Miniature Show, Whistle Pik Galleries, November 26- December 23, 2004 and two shows at the Morseburg Galleries: “A Return to Tradition,” in March of 2003 and “The Draughtsman’s Eye,” in December of 2002. Pro states his secret to success is “a lot of hard work.” |
