Grace Mehan DeVito was trained in the technique and style of the Old Masters and has a deep appreciation and respect for the insight, power, and humanity of the classic academic approach. She is particularly aware of composition, the disposition of light and color, and the handling of space. A native of Connecticut, Grace Mehan DeVito earned her B.F.A. in 1987 from the School of Visual Arts, New York, majoring in illustration. She later studied at the Art Students League and with Laurel Stern Boeck, Marvin Mattelson, Andrew Lattimore and the late George Passantino. She has also taken workshops with nationally known artists Sarah Lamb and Jeremy Lipking. Early in her career, Grace worked as an illustrator for the United Nations Postal Administration, The Franklin Mint, and the Ford Motor Company. DeVito regularly exhibits at the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists Annual Exhibitions, The Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Annual Exhibition at the National Arts Club, NYC, and the Salmagundi Club, NYC. She is the recipient of numerous awards including a First Place, Third Place, Peoples Choice, and two Honorable Mentions in The Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists Annual Shows. She has also been awarded a Silver Medal from the Society of Illustrators, a Gold Addy and The Connecticut Art Directors Club Honorable Mention, as well as a First Place at the New Canaan Art Society’s Spectrum Show. Grace Mehan DeVito has paintings in many private and public collections including The United Nations, The Dioces of Bridgeport, Sony, Pepsico, Northwestern Mutual, The Reynolds Corporation, the Government of Nicaruagua, and the New England Coffee Company. |
