Biography
1885 Born in Paris, France
1902 After secondary education, he apprenticed in a studio for theater sets in Belleville
1903 Started painting and was exhibiting by 1904
1904 - 1906 Work was shown at the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Indépendants
1905 - 1907 Befriended Henri Rousseau and Jean Metzinger and studied the color theories of Michel-Eugène Chevreul
1907 - 1908 Served in the military in Laon, and upon returning to Paris had contact with the Cubists
1912 First solo show at the Galerie Barbazanges, Paris
1918 Designed decor for the Ballets Russes
1914 - 1920 Lived in Spain and Portugal and became friends with Sergei Diaghilev, Leonide Massine, Diego Rivera, and Igor Stravinsky
1941 Died in Montpellier, France
